Introduction
The Boys Town Tutoring Program is an effort to reach out to the residents of Boys Town. The residents are boys of age ranging from around 10- 18. Most of them are in schools, just like other kids their age. There is a common misconception that these boys are trouble-makers and incorrigible. However, most of the boys are actually well-behaved and polite. Most of them do have trouble with their studies; but this is due to their low attention span rather than their poor attitude. The boys can prove to be keen learners once they are engaged. Hence the program was created to aid the boys in their school work, while inspiring them to achieve their goals in life.
Objectives
The volunteers should have a positive impact on the boys and inspire them to work harder to achieve academic success as well as success in other areas of their life. The program intends to improve the attitude and discipline of the boys in general. The boys should develop better intrapersonal skill over the course of the tutoring sessions in which they have to interact with their tutors as well as their peers.
Activities
Our Volunteers conduct weekly sessions at Boys’ Town (Singapore) located near Assumption English School (AES) and Assumption Vocational Institute (AVI). During sessions, volunteers will help to tutor the youths in areas to which they are weakest which can vary from subjects from languages to their mathematics & sciences.
