Introduction
The NVAC National University Hospital volunteering started in 2001, serving initially in the Paediatrics department, and later expanded to include adult and psychiatric patients.
Objectives
Volunteers strive to enhance the quality of life of patients and to build empathy through interaction and communication in the hopes for affective influence that may enhance and hasten the recovery phase of patients.
Activities
In the adult ward, volunteers interact and communicate with the patients, assisting them in daily activities and at times, serving dinner due to the patient’s lack of mobility. Volunteers engage the children in wards with simple games and story telling. Simple group activities or games are usually organised to engage the children and to interact with them while they are waiting for the consultation with their doctors.
